Frequently asked questions about a permanent residence permit
The most common questions concern documents for permanent residence, waiting time, conditions for obtaining and contacting the authority.

What documents are needed for permanent residence?
The scope of the documents depends on the statutory basis for permanent residence. An identity document, photographs and evidence proving a specific condition, such as the Polish Charter, Polish origin, family bond or protection is usually needed. The current list is set for the case.
How long does the application for permanent residence take?
The time limit depends on the type of proceedings, completeness of documents and the activities of the competent authority. Before starting, we explain the current statutory rules, but we do not guarantee the date of the decision.
Can I apply before the end of the visa or current stay?
The application and the appropriate basis for the stay must be assessed before the expiry of the legal stay. The effects of timely submission also depend on compliance with the formal requirements and circumstances of the case; the sending of an incomplete application alone does not give unconditional protection.
Who can be granted a permanent residence permit in Poland?
The law provides for several grounds, including: Polish origin, possession of the Polish Charter, marriage to a Polish citizen after fulfilling statutory conditions, refugee status or subsidiary protection, residence tolerated in certain cases and some other situations indicated in the Foreigners Act.
Can I work in Poland after applying?
Just submitting an application does not always give automatic right to work. This depends on your previous residence status and employment base. Upon permanent residence, the foreigner has free access to the labour market in Poland without a work permit.
What should I do if the authority asks me to provide additional documents?
Reply within the time limit indicated in the letter and provide the required documents or explanations. Failure to react may leave the application unidentified or a negative decision is taken. It is worth carefully examining the content of the official request.
Do you help after a refusal?
Yes. We analyse the grounds for refusal and help to assess whether it is worth to appeal in a given case or take other actions.
Can you help when an authority has failed to act for a long time?
Yes. First we check the file and the deadline. Depending on the situation, a reminder may be possible and a further measure provided for in the provisions may be subsequently taken.
Are you helping customers outside the Pomeranian Voivodeship?
Yes. Many stages of the case can be conducted remotely. However, it should be remembered that the competent voivodeship authority depends on the whereabouts of the foreigner in Poland.
Can consultation take place online?
Yes. Online consultation is possible and often sufficient to analyse the situation, check documents and plan further actions.
