Basics

What is a temporary residence permit and a residence card?

Temporary residence permit

It is an administrative decision which allows legal stay in Poland for a certain period of time and on a specific basis, such as work, studies, family or business activity.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about a temporary residence permit

The most common questions concern residence permit documents, waiting times, the basis for residence and communication with the authority.

Frequently asked questions about a temporary residence card
What documents are needed for the residence card?

The set of documents depends on the basis for residence. The most frequently needed are identification documents, photographs, documents confirming the purpose of the stay, insurance and attachments related to work, studies, family or business activity.

How long is the application for a residence card pending?

The time to wait for a decision depends on the type of case, the completeness of documents and the authority’s workload. Therefore, each case should be prepared to reduce the risk of official requests and additional delays.

Can I apply before the end of the visa or current stay?

Yes. An application for temporary residence must be submitted while you are staying in Poland legally. In practice, it is worth taking care of this earlier in order to have time to complete documents and possible amendments.

How is temporary residence permit different from residence card?

Temporary residence permit is an administrative decision confirming the right of residence for a certain period of time. The residence card is a document issued after a positive decision and confirms the status of the foreigner in practical situations.

Can I work after applying for a temporary residence?

This depends on the basis of your stay, your status to date and your work documents. Before taking a job or changing employment conditions, it is worth examining the specific situation so as not to expose yourself to the problem of the legality of work.

What should I do if the authority asks me to provide additional documents?

We need to carefully examine the content of the official request, the deadline for reply and what documents are needed. In many cases, it is this stage that determines the continuation of proceedings for residence permits.

Do you help after a refusal?

Yes. We analyse the grounds for refusal and help to assess whether it is worth to appeal in a given case or take other actions.

Can you help when an authority has failed to act for a long time?

Yes. If the time to wait for a decision is too long, we examine the situation and help to assess what further action might make sense in a particular situation.

Yes. We help customers from all over Poland remotely and by correspondence, and in the Pomeranian Voivodeship we can also support locally.
